1. Customer service

1.1 What is your Return Policy?

Food Basics Canada Return Policy
If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, simply return the item and receipt within 14 days for a refund or product exchange.*

Corporate Brand Products Return Policy

All of our Corporate Brand Products (Irresistibles, Selection, Master Choice, Equality, Body Basics, Solutions 1-2-3 products) are backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, simply return the item and receipt within 14 days for a refund or product exchange.*

Returns with a Receipt

* If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, simply return the item and receipt within 14 days for a refund or product exchange.
* Refunds will be issued in the same method of payment as the original purchase:
o Purchases made with a debit card will be refunded to the original debit card
o Credit card purchases will be refunded to the original credit card

Returns without a receipt

* Provided that the product is unopened or unused, a product exchange will be offered at the same value as the original item.

Exceptions

* The following items will not be eligible for a refund or exchange without a receipt. If these items are open, they will not be eligible for a refund or exchange even with a receipt.

o Tobacco
o Batteries
o Baby Formula
o Diapers
o Razor Blades
o Personal Garments
o Special Event Tickets
o CDs, DVDs, Videos & All Electronics
o Books & Magazines are not eligible for refund or exchange with or without a receipt

We reserve the right to refuse a refund or product exchange on opened product and without proof of purchase.

For Seasonal Items that may not available for a product exchange, a credit of the lowest final retail will be applied to a gift card.

Proof of purchase is required for all Garden Centre Merchandise refunds/exchanges. There are no refunds on annual flowers or plants. Perennials are eligible for a refund or exchange for up to one year after purchase with the receipt.

Upon refund or exchange, your signature, name, address and phone number may be required for audit purposes. Proof of identification may also be required.

*It is preferable that product is returned to the store where purchased. Effective April 24, 2006.

1.2 Who is Food Basics?

Since 1995, Food Basics has been helping customers save money on their grocery needs by providing the Best Prices Everyday. Food Basics is the discount banner of Metro Ontario Inc. and operates over 100 stores across Ontario.

Our community-based corporate and franchisee stores offer over 8,000 national brand and private label products in an easy to shop layout, and we are easily recognized with our vivid green exterior.

1.3 What forms of payment does Food Basics accept?

Food Basics accepts Visa, Master Card, American Express, Cash, Debit and Gift Certificates.

1.4 Do you accept coupons?

Yes, we accept one coupon per item purchased.

1.5 Do you issue rainchecks?

No, we do not issue rainchecks. Food Basics is able to offer even greater weekly savings by securing pricing arrangements with our suppliers for selected time frames. Once the supply at the special price is exhausted, the price returns to our normal everyday low prices.

1.6 Does Food Basics sell Gift Certificates?

Yes we do. They can be purchased at the store in $5 increments up to $50. Larger amounts can be purchased by speaking to the Store Manager.

1.7 Do you offer on-line shopping or a delivery service?

No, we do not offer online shopping, however we do have over 100 stores in Ontario to serve you. Please visit our Store Locator for a location near you.

1.8 Why did a particular product get discontinued?

Our Buyers and Merchandisers pay close attention to slow moving and low demand products. They strive to make the best decision on which ones to carry in each store. The items we carry are based on customer demand and available space.

1.9 Do you have a list of gluten-free, nut-free, fat-free, etc. products?

No.  We do not have a list.  If you have any questions about a specific product, you can contact us through Contact Us on our website or call Customer Care toll-free at 1-866-9BASICS (1-866-922-7427).

1.10 Can I buy your Irresistibles, Selection, Master Choice or Equality products for export?

No.  Our products are exclusive to our stores and we do not sell wholesale for export.

2. Donations and Fundraising

2.1 My daughter plays on a sports team and we are looking for funding. Does Food Basics sponsor children's sports teams?

Food Basics supports its parent company's (Metro Inc.) charitable program, Growing Great Kids. All of our fundraising efforts and corporate donations are dedicated to this program which supports three leading children's charities: Breakfast for Learning, The Hospital for Sick Children and Kids Help Phone. Therefore, we cannot accomodate requests to sponsor sports teams or other projects of that nature.

3. Privacy and Security

3.1 What information do you collect and why do you collect it?

We may collect personal information about you through various contacts, such as:

  • over the phone (i.e. when you call our Customer Care Department at 1-866-9-BASICS) or at our stores.
  • through the Internet (e.g. 'Contact Us', contests, online surveys, etc.).
  • when you use our pharmacy service

The type of personal information we collect may include your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and participation in promotions. Satisfying your needs is very important to us. The information we collect is used to better understand what our customers buy so that we can keep improving our products and services.

From time to time, with your consent, we may contact you for market research purposes. We may also select a limited number of special offers, free samples or other information to send you. We are committed to ensuring that you only receive those communications that would be of most interest to you. If at any time you would like us to stop sending you this type of material, please contact us at the address below. At our pharmacies, we may collect your name, date of birth, weight (if under age 13), previous and current medical conditions, allergies, previous medication history, drug plan information (if applicable, including OHIP number for the Ontario Drug Plan over age 65 patients), physician information, pregnancy/lactation status (if applicable), and other pertinent health care information necessary to service your health needs.

Our pharmacies collect personal information to perform the following:

  • To provide enough health information for our pharmacists to properly counsel, fill, and recommend products to match your health care needs, and to assist physicians and other health care providers in managing your drug therapy.
  • To manage an accurate database of your health information to assist other health care professionals as needed.
  • To allow third party public and private drug benefit administrators enough information to pay for the medication(s) and service(s) provided.
  • Call-backs and therapy changes.
  • We may call you after the prescription filling process to follow up on your drug therapy.

3.2 Who may have access to my personal information?

Your privacy is very important to us. We are committed to earning your trust by safeguarding your personal information. All the information you provide to us is securely maintained and is kept strictly confidential. We do not, and will not, sell or rent our customer lists or private health information to other companies.

Selected Metro Ontario Inc. employees: Access to your personal information is limited to a select group of Metro Ontario Inc. employees who use it only for purposes explained in the previous sections. All these employees are bound by this Privacy Commitment. Unauthorized access to, misuse and/or disclosure of customer information is strictly prohibited. All employees are expected to maintain the confidentiality of customer information at all times and failing to do so will result in appropriate disciplinary measures.

Outside service suppliers: We sometimes use outside organizations to provide services such as analysis, market research, data processing and printing. Our pharmacies may utilize a medication delivery service, but only with your consent. All these suppliers are bound by strict contracts to protect the privacy and security of your information, and they are given only the information necessary to perform those services. They are also prohibited from storing, analyzing or using that information for any other purpose.

Drug Benefit Plans: We disclose personal information to drug benefit plan administrators in order for them to pay for the medication(s) and service(s) provided. These insurance providers do have the ability to internally audit the pharmacy upon sufficient notice.

Government Authorities: If we are required by law or a court order to disclose personal information, we will disclose only that information that is legally required.

3.3 How do you safeguard your information?

We are committed to keeping secure the data we collect and take precautions to protect it from unauthorized access, loss, misuse or alteration. The following are the security safeguards that we have in place to provide necessary protection:

  • Physical measures such as secure filing cabinet.
  • Technology tools such as user ID numbers, passwords and firewalls.
  • Organizational controls such as limiting access on a 'need-to-know' basis, staff training, and confidentiality agreements.
  • Compliance with the patient confidentiality requirement of the Drug and Pharmacy Regulations Act.

4. Store Location

4.1 When is Food Basics going to open a store in my town?

We continually evaluate where to build new stores and where to expand. If you have a suggestion for a location, feel free to contact our Customer Care Department. Your suggestions will be kept for future consideration.

4.2 I am interested in applying for a position with one of your stores. How can I do this?

You can visit one of our stores and ask for an application.

5.1 How do I receive advance notice of your eFLYER Weekly Specials?
